Minister of Health, Dr Leslie Ramsammy, says that an investigation has been launched into the death of maternal patient Nadira Charles, 27, of Moruka Village, Region One.
Relatives are alleging that due to the negligence of the nurses, medex and doctor at the Kumaka/ Moruka Hospital the woman and her unborn child died.
The Minister told Kaieteur News, yesterday, that he wasn’t aware of the matter, that it might have been reported late.
Dr Ramsammy said that he is awaiting a report from the Chief Medical Officer and would make further pronouncements on the matter. Janet Ganesh, the dead woman’s mother, had told Kaieteur News that she took her daughter, who was seven months pregnant, to the hospital on July 3, after the girl began experiencing a bout of diarrhoea.
According to Ganesh, she could have treated her daughter at home but didn’t because she trusted the doctors at the hospital.
