Barticians will be joining the rest of Guyana in this year’s Emancipation celebration with a packed list of activities.
Yesterday, several organizations, including the Bartica Hospital, the Education Department and the Regional Administration Office among others participated in an African Best Dressed Office competition.
However the staff of the Bartica Hospital walked away with first place.
Meanwhile, later this evening the community will be hosting the African Cultural and Development Association for a night of African Song and dance at a programme called ‘Enzinga’.
On Sunday there will be a grand African fashion show which will be held at the Golden Beach Pavilion and will feature designs by Bartica’s own, Paul Burnette, Special Lynch, Sonia Noel and Tiffany Sampson.
On Monday at the Golden Beach there will be the Emancipation Festival, featuring the Yoruba Singers, songs, dance, face painting, steel pan music, more fashion display; competitions such as limbo dancing, best met-em-gee, best corn row hair style, African King and Queen.
During Saturday and Monday there will be drumming and masquarading through out the streets of Bartica.
