The three teams with the most points in this year’s regional under-19 three-day cricket competition after the opening round could claim just four points from their second round games.
The top-of-the-points table clash between host Guyana and Jamaica at Bourda is still to commence after heavy early morning washed out the second day after the first day on Friday was also washed out without a ball being bowled.
Barbados, the other team to start the second round with 12 points from first round victories, also had no play against the Leeward Islands at DCC on the first two days of their match.
Both Bourda and DCC, which are about 5 minutes from each other in the City
were waterlogged yesterday morning and although the sun was out in all of its glory for most of the afternoon the damage had already been done and prospects of play before Lunch today looks remote, especially since more rain was forecast for last night.
Even if there is some play today it is unlikely that any team can capture first innings points which could leave Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados heading into the third round of the competition which starts on Tuesday with 16 points each.
The ground staff at both venues was working overtime yesterday afternoon to try and facilitate some action today as the match between bottom-of-the-table Trinidad and Tobago and defending champions Windward Islands at Providence was the only game in the round to have any play on the first two days.
Most of the players at Bourda spend the morning watching the India/England Test match on TV and team officials said if there is again no action today their task would be to keep the teenagers focus on the cricket and the task of giving their countries glory during the next three matches in the three-day tournament.
