Sixty-two year old Eustace Rodrigues was battling for his life yesterday in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after being struck by a car on Durban Street.
Reports are that Rodrigues left his home around 06:45 hrs yesterday to purchase some items at the market.
While riding his pedal cycle on Durban Street, a hire car being driven by a woman suddenly slammed into his cycle, causing Rodrigues to be hurled into the air.
He received severe injuries.
His wife, Vestor Rodrigues, told Kaieteur News that she was home when her husband told her he was heading to the market.
Around 07:00 hrs, she received a telephone call from the GPHC notifying her that her husband was involved in a serious accident.
Vestor stated that she was told that the driver of the hire car was a woman.
The driver is in police custody.
