The Central Police Station recently continued its outreach programme with the formation of a scout group in the Angoy’s Avenue.
One of the scout leaders Rural Corporal, Deon Thomas, stated that more than 60 youths from mainly the Angoy’s Avenue area have already signed up to be a part of the group. He was loud in praise for Divisional Officer of Sub division One, Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan who was instrumental in the formation of the group.
Thomas stated that one of the main purposes of the activity is to keep the youth occupied and to help instill discipline in them. He stated that scouting is a perfect way to achieve some of the goals.
The aims of the Scout group are to encourage the physical, mental and spiritual development of Young people so that they can take a constructive place in society. Scouting is all about discipline, pioneering, training, First Aid and being able to be industrious along with being loyal to family and country.
Young people between the ages of seven and 19 are so far a part of the group which will be supervised and trained by the ranks of the Central Police Station of New Amsterdam. Corporal Trevor Jeffers will be in charge.
The group had it first community outreach activity on Wednesday last when they distributed over 50 hamper compliments of the Berbice business community to some less fortunate families mainly in the same Angoy’s Avenue area.
Director of the University of Guyana Berbice Campus, Professor Daizal R. Samad, and Divisional Sub Officer Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan were among those present.
At the outreach, members of the Guyana Prison Service also participated in the activity and assisted person in need of medical examinations.
