Cougars Football Club C team played unbeaten to win the first Big ‘B’ five a side football competition which was played recently at the Hampshire Playfield at Corentyne, Berbice. In the finals Cougars C won from Pacers Football Club of Fyrish 2-1 on Sudden death penalty kicks after the game ended 1-1 after full and extra time.
Fourteen teams participated in the competition namely Rose Hall Town, R1 Floodlight of Manchester, Cutters and Pacers from Fyrish, Cougars A, B and C, Liverpool, One Love and Ghetto Warriors from Rose Hall Town, Gunners, Republican and Manchester United all from New Amsterdam and Kildonan Warriors.
Results of the matches played were; in first round play; Manchester United won from Rose Hall Town 2-1, Cutters beat R1 Floodlight 2-0. Cougar A got the better of Kildonan Warriors 2-1; Ghetto Warriors whipped Liverpool 3-0, Cougars B squeezed past Gunners 2-1, Cougars C then got the better of Republicans 2-0 and Pacers then beat One Love 2-0.
In semifinal play Pacers beat Cougars B 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks after the game ended 0-0 after full and extra time. In the next Semifinal Cougars C got the better of Ghetto Warriors 2-1.
At the presentation ceremony that followed, Cougars C was presented with the Big ‘B’ trophy and $25,000. Pacers received the second place trophy and $10, 000.
The coordinators were Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and Phillip ‘Pine’ Carrington.
