– Caricom PMs praised for getting involved
The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) on behalf of Chris Gayle and the best interests of West Indies Cricket yesterday thanked the Heads of Government of the CARICOM Community for their decision to intervene in West Indies Cricket.
WIPA said that it viewed with considerable optimism the decision to revive the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket and to review the matter involving Mr. Gayle and the WICB, as well as the broader issues between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and WIPA.
President and CEO of WIPA, Dinanath Ramnarine, expressed his satisfaction with the move by the Heads of Government and committed his organisation to cooperating fully with the Sub-Committee on Cricket.
He stated, “WIPA is pleased that CARICOM has heeded the call by Chris Gayle to intervene. Chris made a telling point which we see that the Heads of Government have picked up. West Indies Cricket is bigger than the WICB. West Indies Cricket belongs to the people of the region and not a miniscule group of administrators who want to dictate to everyone. We fully support the move and will do all we can to make it succeed in its desire to put our cricket on a firmer foundation.”
Mr. Ramnarine thanked all the Prime Ministers for their support of the game and singled out Dr. Denzil Douglas, the new CARICOM Chairman and Guyana President, Bharrat Jagdeo, for taking the matter forward.
