Senior chess player Pierre Boucher amassed seven points to emerge champion when action in the Trophy Stall One-day Rapid Chess Tournament concluded at the KEI-SHAR’S Sports Club, Hadfield Street, over the past weekend.
Anthony Drayton emulated his senior counterpart with six points, the same amount as Suhai Feng with the former player winning the top prize after the tie breaker system was employed.
Boucher suffered a slight setback when he conceded a game to Drayton. The latter player suffered two losses to junior player Suhai Feng and senior, Learie Webster. Webster eventually placed second among the seniors, while the lone female Maria Thomas, placed third among the seniors.
Feng finished second among the juniors, while reigning national junior champion, Ron Motilall was relegated to third place. Roberto Neto and Raan Motilall placed fourth and fifth respectively. The other points standing are: Learie Webster (6 points), Maria Thomas and David Khan (5 points apiece) and Alexander Duncan and Alex Joseph (4 points apiece).
In the junior category: Ron Motilall and Roberto Neto (5 points each), Raan Motilall, Ashwant Satamand, Shane Yussuf and Puran Singh (4 points apiece). The competition attracted 21 chess players.
