Former WBA Junior Welterweight champion Vivian Harris has defied several mishaps in the ring and is set to resume his career after medical authorities in New York has given him a clean bill of health.
The former junior/welterweight world champion recently disclosed that he has signed a contract to engage in a twelve rounds welterweight bout for the United States Boxing Organization (USBO) title on July 15. Harris did not state who is his opponent and extensive searches on the internet failed to endorse the billing.
Harris, who enjoyed a prolific career up to when he won the world title from Diosbelys Hurtado, had experienced torrid times of recent prompting his many fans to suggest his retirement from the sport. Harris had scoffed the suggestions saying that he still had a lot of fight left in him.
He was involved in a collision of heads with Noe Bolanos in the 2nd round of a 10-round fight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, resulting in him leaving the ring on a stretcher for medical attention.
The 31-year-old Harris was taken to a nearby hospital for observation and was given a precautionary CAT scan that came back negative. He was released from the hospital shortly afterwards where he visited his neurologist as a further precaution.
“I’m OK. All the tests came back negative. My health is my number one concern so I made sure I took all the necessary medical precautions before I resume fighting,” Harris had said. He has since opened camp at the Jackie Gleason’s Gym and is quite confident of reinstating himself among the top world beaters.
