Jamaican Reggae artiste Konshens to headline concert; $1M in giveaways for fans
Jamaican Reggae artiste Konshens will be the main act on the opening day of the GT&T FastBall nationwide knock-out football championship set to kick off on Saturday July 2 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden.
Konshens will perform along with local star Jory Hector and Bluie Maxx on what is anticipated to be a history making and memorable evening of football and live entertainment.
FastBall, the first of its kind internationally, is a fast paced game of football featuring 11 vs 11 using the full size field, but is only played for 30 minutes (2 equal halves of 15 minutes).
The championship which has some 6 million dollars in cash and prizes at stake has received the full blessings of the Guyana Football Federation and has also been endorsed by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport.
Main sponsor GT&T has teamed up with corporate giant Banks DIH Limited, Impressions and the National Communications Network (NCN) to pull off what is anticipated to be an extremely breathtaking showpiece.
Intent on allowing the public and players to have an appreciation for the new and innovative rules that will govern the competition, GT&T along with organisers, Kashif & Shanghai Organisation and Hits & Jams Entertainment organised ‘Awareness Games’ that have been played in Georgetown, East Coast, Berbice, Linden, Essequibo, Bartica and West Demerara.
Fans and players have all expressed their delight for this new format of football which adds to the normal 11-a-side, futsal 5-a-side, 7-a-side, beach football and 2020 which was also started in Linden by Dr. Haynes.
Official registration for the tournament ended on Friday last and shortly it will be known how many teams will contest this knock-out tournament.
On the opening night also, GT&T will be dolling out ONE MILLION dollars in giveaways for the fans at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground. In order to be eligible, patrons must wear something blue or a FastBall branded jersey; the latter will be on sale in Linden from this week.
All the registered teams in Linden will participate in the march past at the MSC Ground which is expected to be attended by high ranking officials of GT&T, Ministry of Sports, GFF, Banks DIH, Impressions and NCN.
Among the songs that Konshens has sung that have been hits in Guyana are Gal Dem Talk, Good Girl Gone Bad, Realest Ting, Forward, Bounce like a Ball, Realest Medz and Do Di Ting among others.
