The baby boy who was found lying on a roadway in Lethem on Tuesday, last, has now been given a new family, and an opportunity to have a comfortable life.
Amanda Garnette, the woman who found the three-week-old child wrapped in a towel and clad in short pants, after a period of heavy rainfall on the said day, had requested to legally adopt the child and claim him as her own.
Kaieteur News understands that Garnette was returning to Brazil with her family after taking them for “a swim” when she made her discovery. Upon recognising that it was a baby boy and he was alive, she immediately took him to the Lethem Police Station then to the Lethem Hospital, where she awaited the necessary procedures to ensure that the child was alright.
Garnette subsequently voiced her intention of adopting the child.
Kaieteur News understands that Garnette visited the relevant authorities yesterday in Lethem, to finalize arrangements in this regard.
The woman was allowed to claim the child, whom she named “Aden”, which means “little fire”.
