Linden Measa, who was charged with break and enter and larceny appeared on Friday, last, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that between March 18, and March 22 at 68 Brickdam, he broke and entered the welfare department of the Ministry of Education and stole articles amounting to a total value of $130,000, property of the Ministry of Education.
The defendant who resides at Railway Embankment Turkeyen pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar stated that on May 23, employees returned to work and noticed several windowpanes missing. They later discovered that items were also missing.
A report was made and the ranks went down to the location to carry of an investigation. Pindar told the court that the ranks dusted the tampered area; found fingerprints and took them down to the Criminal Investigation Department head quarters.
When tested, the finger prints matched the ones in the file belonging to Measa.
The defendant was then cautioned, arrested and charged with the offence. Measa has been remanded to prison and his next court date is set for May 30.
