…Local entertainer released from police custody
The 29-year-old American citizen who was nabbed on Sunday last with cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, is expected to appear in court later today.
And the two persons who were detained based on information which the man provided have since been released.
According to reports, the two persons who were held were said to be associated with a major entertainment group in Guyana.
Sources close to the investigation said that the man, on being held, told investigators that it was the group who accommodated him during his stay in Guyana.
Initial reports are that on Sunday morning the man was attempting to board a Delta airline flight which was destined for the United States when he was found with the prohibited substance.
This newspaper was told that around 06:00 hours the 29-year-old man was stopped and searched by ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU). While searching the man’s belongings, CANU operatives discovered that the suitcase had a false wall. They allegedly found a white substance concealed in it.
The substance was later confirmed to be cocaine weighing just over two kilograms.
