The BVA League Competition for the Reggie Goberdhan Memorial Trophy commenced last Sunday May15 with two matches.
At the GTM Hardcourt in N/A, Rollers opposed Falcons of Canje in a thrilling five setter which Rollers won 3 sets to 2.
The scores were: 25-22, 26-28, 19-25, 26-24 and 15-12. Over at the GTC/PM court, Port Mourant Jaguars clashed with GTC/PM.
That encounter was won by GTC/PM by 3 sets to 1. The scores were:- 25-21,25-20,21-25, and 25-9.
The League involves six teams, namely GTC/PM, Port Mourant Jaguars, Albion(Zone A) and Rollers, Eglets and Falcons (Zone B).The zone teams will play each other three times in home and away matches over the next few months.
The final will be contested between the top team in each zone on December 6 at the GTM Hardcourt, when the family of the late Reggie Goberdhan is expected to be in the country to present the trophy and other incentives.
The late Reggie Goberdhan was an ardent supporter of the BVA during the late 80’s and played for the Avengers Volleyball Club of Stanleytown, N/A.
Meanwhile, the BVA will be holding a competition for Schools (Boys & Girls) as part of Youth Week activities on Friday, May 27 at the Area H Court in Rose Hall Town.
The competition which is being sponsored by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, is open to all schools in Berbice. Trophies and other incentives are at stake.
