Dear Mr. Editor,
I read with utter disgust that some members of the Private Media were prevented from entering the ground of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club on Sunday 15th March where friends of the PPP/ C ran off a horserace meeting (Kaieteur News of Monday March 16).
So far as the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club is concerned, it would never prevent members of the Media, whether private or otherwise, from entering its grounds whenever there is an activity there, whether organized by the Club or by any other organization. Had the incident on Sunday last been brought to my attention I would certainly have intervened.
I am happy to note that Mr. Roy Hanoman, Senior Community member who was present intervened and upbraided the gateman concerned and escorted the members of the media into the venue. I was also told that the Regional Chairman Mr. Zulfikar Mustapha was quite upset when told what the gateman had done.
Members of the Kennard Memorial Turf, even though not directly involved in the running of the race meeting, would like to make an unqualified apology to those members of the media for the embarrassment caused to them.
Furthermore, the gate man concerned should apologize to me for making the ridiculous statements “this is not a Kennard thing, this is awe thing this is PPP thing”. That gateman ought to have known that if Kennard did not provide the venue for the event, there would not have been “a PPP thing” that day.
Yours sincerely
Cecil C. Kennard Honorary President
