Quincy Critchlow yesterday continued his testimony before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the treason trial of Leonard Wharton, Bruce Munroe, and Carol-Ann Munroe. The trial is set to continue on May 24, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court
Critchlow was the only person to give testimony yesterday and he was on the stand for approximately two hours.
Wharton, a reservist in the Guyana Defence Force; Munroe, a serving major in the army and his wife Carol-Ann Munroe, were on December 27, last, arrested and charged with conspiracy for treason.
Between December 1 and December 16, 2010, the three accused allegedly plotted to level war within Guyana to force the President out of office in order to compel the government to change its measures. The trio made its first court appearance on December 28, 2010.
Munroe, reportedly, is the first woman to be charged with treason in this country and Police had reported that the three accused recruited persons to create mayhem in this country to overthrow the government.
