President of the Essequibo Cricket (ECB) Board Sheik Ahmed said yesterday that his board has not changed their position in support of Ramsay Ali as Guyana Cricket Board President at the upcoming elections.
Ahmed, an executive member of the GCB, said that rumors were circulating that the ECB was backing Bissoon Singh for the Presidency and wanted to make it clear that the ECB has taken a united stand to throw their support behind Ali, the present Marketing Manager of the GCB.
Ali, Singh and former GCB Secretary Bish Panday are the delegates vying for the GCB’s top position since Chetram Singh, the GCB top man since 1991, is not seeking re-election.
The Elections were due since January but have been stalled for various reasons and is now almost six months overdue.
“My Board (ECB) and I are fully behind Ramsay Ali since we think he is the best person at this time to take Guyana’s cricket forward. After hearing rumors that Bissoon Singh has the ECB support and after consulting with my members, I have found that none of them have changed their position,” Ahmad informed.
“We don’t think Singh is the person for the job and we are not supporting him since our aim is to see Guyana’s cricket improve both on and off the field,” Ahmad continued.
When contacted, Singh, who got 25 of the 27 votes for the Vice-Presidency in the last GCB elections, said everyone should wait on what transpires on the day of the elections and hopes that the will of the voters is respected.
Singh believes he is not Ahmad and Ali’s best friend because of GCB issues, some of which is already public knowledge.
