Young Achievers, Titans, Charity and Lima recorded victories as the New Building Society 40-over cricket competition commenced recently in North Essequibo.
At Walton Hall, the host went down to Young Achievers by 4 wickets. Walton Hall batted first and scored 166 all out in 35 overs. Latchman Singh 48, Devindra Balgobin 28 and Suresh Persaud 19 were their leading run getters as Kevin Dindyal took 3-25, while Naresh Ramdial and Naseef Mohamed collected two wickets each.
Young Achievers in reply made 167-6 in 32 overs. Gavin Narine top scored with 34 while Leroy Roopchand supported with 32 and Kennard Berne chipped in with 27 as Navin Bahadur and Devindra Balgobin grabbed two wickets each for Walton Hall.
At Richmond, Titans defeated Gunners by 14 runs in a low scoring affair. Titans took first strike and were bowled out for 112 in 22 overs.
Trevor Garraway scored 21 as Nelson Gordon took 4-18 and Mark Tyrell 2-29 for Gunners who folded for 98 in 20 overs in reply. Amitabh Bisnauth claimed 4-12 and Polo McDonald 3-15 for the winners.
In other matches played, Charity got pass Top Guns by 2 wickets, and Lima Triumphed over Young Guns by 8 wickets.
