On a hot and dry afternoon, ECI won the toss and elected to bat. The opening pair of right-hander’s Phillip Jaiserisingh and Karranchand Indarjit provided a solid start by adding 75 runs off only 7.1 overs. Jaierisingh walloped and rode his luck to 46 off just 23 balls before lofting medium pacer and skipper Burnette to long on to be caught. Indarjit, who batted solidly for 28, followed soon after being dismissed to leave the score at 85 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
Consistent left hander Tony Ramjewan and the dependable right handed Brian Sukhai joined forces, mixing aggression with defence to build on the solid platform to add 40 runs in quick time before the former was out for a run a ball 24. Sukhai was then joined by the aggressive Vishnu Merhai who made a quick 20 as they added 31 runs with Merhai taking 19 runs (3 sixes) off a Burnette’s over before losing his middle stump in the next over to Ingram Dey.
Skipper Rawle Munroe joined Sukhai to add 27 runs to push ECI to a competitive total of 183 off 20 overs. Munroe and Sukhai were both left unbeaten on 22 and 33 respectively. Burnette and Dey finished with 2 wickets each.
Tarmac XI’s response to ECI’s large total began steadily as they progressed to 40 runs in 5 overs before losing both openers in Sukhai’s third over. The tarmac boys were further in trouble as some tight lines and pace were bowled by Munroe who picked up a couple wickets and Indarjit supported well to finish with 2 wickets also to skittle out Tarmac for 136. Seon and Jason both top scored with 18 each.
ECI’s skipper Munroe collected the winner’s trophy on the team’s behalf and Sukhai picked up the man-of-the-match award for his fine all round contributions.
