North Essequibo crushed Bartica by 189 runs to win the final of the Igloo Ice Cream / Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) Under-15 50 overs cricket competition which was played on Thursday last at the Anna Regina Community Center Ground, Essequibo Coast.
Bartica won the toss and invited North Essequibo to take first strike on a two paced track. The home team posted a respectable 247 all out in exactly 30 overs. Shaquille Rigby who hit top score of 64 (6×4 3×6) ably supported by Devon George who slammed 62 (6×4) and Quinton Courtman 36 (3×4 1×6).
Guy Lobert claimed 2-18 off 4 overs; Rockell Reddy (2-28) off 6 and Antonio Balgobin 2-32 from 5 also chipped in with the ball. Bartica in reply folded meekly for a meager 58 in 28 overs.
Keanno Harry (11) was the only batsman to reached double figures, extras contributed a healthy 26. Doing the damage with the ball were Kisho Rooplall 4-17 off 7 overs and Kevin Warner 3-0. North Essequibo received the champion’s trophy with Bartica collecting the runner-up prize.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony ECB President Sheik Ahmad congratulated North for winning the tournament and Bartica for reaching the final.
He also thanked the sponsor for coming on board and is looking foward to their continued support.
Meanwhile, the ECB selectors have shortlisted a squad of 18 for the Inter County Under-15 tournament which will be trimmed to 14 after a one week training camp.
The 18 man squad reads: Shivindra Hemraj, Ricardo Peters, Parmesh Parasatam, Shaquile Rigby, Kemo Paul, Devon George, Rockell Reddy, Paul Williams, Akil Wiiace, Andrew Simmons, Keon Davis, Omario Lake, Kevin Warner, Quinton Courtman, Kemol Savory, Avinash Persaud, Travis Drakes and Deolall Persaud.
