– accused of taking $$ for visitors’ extensions
(Antigua observer) The two immigration officers charged with fraud are expected to appear in St John’s Magistrate Court, while a third officer remains in police custody for questioning. Ron Sellwood is charged with allegedly collecting $1,200 from a Jamaican national in exchange for an extension of time in Antigua & Barbuda.
The woman reportedly never received the extension.
Meanwhile, Herberts’ resident, Kaydee Gardner, is charged with obtaining $2,225 from a Guyanese national under false pretence.
The offence reportedly occurred between November 4, 2009 and November 30, 2010. Gardner was one of two immigration officers detained by police last Thursday.
Selwood and Gardner are both out on bail, and at the time of going to press no charges have been laid against the third officer.
Sources tell The Daily Observer it is likely that more fraud charges will be laid as police continue their investigations.
Meanwhile, National Security Minister, Dr Errol Cort has again issued a firm warning to the department.
He said the workers will be held to the highest level of professionalism and integrity, and should anyone fail to meet those standards, the individual will face the appropriate disciplinary action.
The National Security minister said the recent cases of fraud involving immigration officers are the culmination of an internal probe in the department.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
