Well-known businessman Ganesh Jaigobin of Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, was shot and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money while conducting business transactions on Regent Street, Georgetown, yesterday.
According to police reports, the robbery took place around 14:00 hrs (02:00) pm while Jaigobin was sitting in a parked car.
According to the police an armed man approached Jaigobin and relieved him of a bag with money after shooting Jaigobin in his left forearm and abdomen.
This newspaper understands that the perpetrator fired three shots at the businessman and then made good his escape on a waiting motorcycle, being ridden by an accomplice.
Jaigobin was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital for emergency treatment.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the hospital, relatives of Jaigobin were waiting anxiously on reports concerning his status. At the time the injured man had been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit. One male relative stated that the medical team was “still doing tests on him but he seems to be in a stable condition.”
Contrary to the police statement, the relative insisted that Jaigobin was only shot in his left arm during the robbery, when he was about to enter a store to conduct business.
He suggested that the incident had to take place outside of the car because the driver would have been present with Jaigobin during the robbery and shooting, but he wasn’t.
Jaigobin’s relatives told this publication that the injured man was relatively young (in his forties).
Another family member explained that police ranks arrived at the hospital shortly after Jaigobin was admitted to take a report.+
It is believed that the bandits were trailing Jaigobin as he conducted business around the city and waited for the perfect opportunity to make their move.
So far no arrest has been made.
