Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack was yet again missing from the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the treason case, nevertheless, state prosecutor Sonia Joseph carried on with the examination of chief witness, Quincy Critchlow.
Treason is a capital offence which is not bailable. Late last December, Guyana Defence Force Major Bruce Munroe his wife Carol-Ann Munroe and reserve officer Leonard Wharton were charged with the said offence.
The prosecution is alleging that sometime between December 1, 2009 and December 16, 2010 the trio plotted to depose the President and Government of Guyana.
The PI is engaging the attention of the Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
At the initiation of yesterday’s proceedings, only defence counsel Gregory Gaskin and George Thomas were in attendance.
Attorney at-law Nigel Hughes did not report for the hearing.
During Critchlow’s examination, Gaskin objected to certain details the witness was asked to relate by the prosecution. On the last objection, Magistrate Beharry informed the court that she would be adjourning the hearing to consult with the legislation to enquire if the counsel’s objections should be sustained or overruled. Following that announcement, the matter was adjourned until April 28.
On the last occasion, due to the Director of Public Prosecutions being absent the matter was postponed to yesterdays’ date.
