Six teams to clash for $300,000 top prize
The 2011 edition of the Bartica Regatta football competition is set to kick off this evening at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, organised by the Bartica Football Association (BFA).
Some six teams placed into two groups of three will battle first in the group format with the top two from each moving on to the semifinals.
Secretary Carlton Beckles has disclosed that a top prize of $300,000 is at stake along with bragging rights for the winner of the tournament which is expected to end on Saturday.
Rising Star, Ballers, Riversview, Beacon, Lazio and Wolves United are the teams expected to compete, Potaro Road Strikers is the standby team.
A second prize of $150,000 is also up for grabs with the winners of the third place showdown set to collect $75,000. The tournament MVP as well as the best goal keeper on show will each collect $10,000 while the Fair Play Trophy is at stake for the Most Disciplined Team.
Regional Chairman Holbert Knights is expected to deliver feature remarks at today’s opening which is expected to get underway at 17:30hrs with the march-past of all the teams.
PNC Member of Parliament Judith David-Blair will also deliver remarks as will BFA President, Carlos Prowell.
A number of Guest Players (Loan Players) from the City are expected to turn out for the home teams, the competition rules have been designed to take care of this move by the BFA.
