Reigning Caribbean Super Bike champion Kevin Graham speaking with Kaieteur Sport shortly before he received his trophy for being the most outstanding rider at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) season opener, which was staged on Sunday, said that he thoroughly enjoyed the competition and was looking forward to returning for the November Meet.
The Canadian won two of the three races for Superbikes, while he fell in the final race along with local rider Carlos Rodrigues.
Graham, who has been coming to compete in Guyana for a number of years and is very familiar with the South Dakota Circuit, a track he has dominated quite often, carting off the championship trophy many times in the past.
He returned yesterday morning, but disclosed that even though his attendance for the July Race Meet is in doubt, he is hoping to participate in at least two Meeting of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship Series.
“I would like to go to Barbados and then Guyana in November and hopefully defend my title,” Graham told this newspaper on Monday evening at the GMR&SC Headquarters.
Commenting on his performance, Graham, who rides a Sunburst Orange Juice-sponsored 1000cc Kawasaki revealed on the newly re-laid track which he noted, is a positive initiative for the sport that could improve the standard of racing here.
He added that at present because the track was recently resurfaced it is not ready to accommodate competitors seeking to establish new records due to its softness right now.
“When it gets a little harder then the possibility of new lap records being set is a reality,” he stated.
He commended the executive of the club for having the foresight to approach the Government and Private Sector for financial assistance to improve the general outlook of the Circuit.
Graham informed that even though he is still enjoying competing, he is at a stage right now where he has nothing more to prove, but will be focusing more on his family.
