– feels Video Analyst would help

Guyana Captain Assad Fudadin watched in anguish on Monday as his team slumped from 163-5 to 191 all out against CCC chasing 200 to win their first match this season and said the result was his biggest disappointment so far.
“Our bowlers again worked hard and even after I was out I felt we should have won the match. To get so close and lose a match we had to win to stand a chance of reaching the semi-finals was really disappointing,” the 25-year-old Fudadin, in his first season as Guyana skipper, told Kaieteur Sport.
Guyana head into their final game against Trinidad and Tobago at Albion on Friday at the bottom of the points table for the third consecutive year and the Berbician Fudadin says that his team will be playing for pride from Friday.
Once again the batsmen wasted good starts with Fudadin (44), Derwin Christian (32), Vishaul Singh (32) and Leon Johnson (23) all passing 20 although Fudadin clearly edged the ball when he was adjudged leg before.
“Our batting continues to let us down and I think it is more mental than anything else. We have been batting well but getting out without getting the big scores and if you look at this team I think we all have so much talent but the mental approach to our batting continues to be a problem,” Fudadin, one of only three Guyanese with half-centuries this season opined.
Fudadin was high in praise for the bowlers whom he said have done an excellent job throughout the tournament.
“All of the games we lost we were in positions to win….we have been competitive but the batsmen, our batsmen have not shown enough application. It’s disappointing to see us getting out the same way throughout the tournament,” the skipper said.
Fudadin has been the victim of a few poor Umpiring decisions this season and while the West Indies ‘A’ player would not comment on the Umpires he said that standards have dropped in all aspects of West Indies cricket and said that the players understand that they also have to play a big role in improving the quality of play at Regional level.
“Look….we (Guyana team) are not doing well and it hurts when you hear people saying that the players don’t care…I can speak for myself….of course I care and work hard in the nets to try and go out there and score hundreds.
“I think if we had a Video Analyst that would help in a big way since we could sit down and see what we did wrong and look at things in slow motion. All of the team’s have a Video Analyst and while we have to take the blame for our performances we also need help to improve,” Fudadin, a former West Indies youth player stated.
Fudadin, who has not been able to convert any of his eight fifties into hundreds from his 65 innings at First-Class level, despite his obvious talent informed that the lack of sustained concentration seems to be a factor and added that mental preparation and planning an innings are things the players are working on.
Fudadin, one of the WICB contracted players, feels that the low standard of club cricket in Guyana and the pitches in his homeland have contributed to the decline in the team’s batting performances.
“We need a proper standard of cricket in Guyana where we can have bowlers challenging batsmen in different situations. Our first division standard is so low and the pitches so slow that I don’t feel it prepares us for even Regional First-Class level which is not as high as it used to be,” Fudadin said.
Fudadin also says that more three-day cricket has to be played in Guyana to get the players to learn to bat long, but added that if most of the senior players are away or the pitches not improved having sub standard three day cricket will be of little value.
The team composition has also been questioned this season with Fudadin being asked to open when Shemroy Barrington was dropped, while other players who were not in the squad were included and played ahead of Steven Jacobs who has been the 12th man for every game so far.
Fudadin said he was asked to open in the interest of the team and explained that the ‘make-up’ of the teams resulted in Jacobs, a former West Indies youth Skipper, being left out.
Jacobs, a middle order batsman who bowls off-spin, scored his maiden fifty last year and has played eight matches in a First-Class career which began in 2006.
With the continued failure of the batsmen and spin bowling ability, many expected him to play in the last game. When asked for a comment Coach Mark Harper refused to do so.
