Police in Berbice recovered part of the stolen booty and nabbed an accomplice after a masked bandit attacked and robbed a business woman at Tain Settlement Corentyne on Friday.
Reports are that businesswoman Samila Bedeshak, 55, of 64 Tain Settlement , Corentyne was on her way home from her business place in the same village from where she operates a grocery store. As she was heading home a masked man attacked her who cuffed her and attempted to take away her bag and other belongings.
The woman held on to her belongs and a scuffle ensued even though the bandit continued to beat the woman.
He eventually manage to take away her bag which contained US$150; $60,000 in local currency, more than 45,000 worth of GT&T and Digicel phone cards, a Nokia cell phone among other items. During the scuffle the kerchief that the bandit was wearing came off and the woman was able to recognise the thief as one ‘Dappa’, a known character from the area.
A report was made and police moved swiftly to the bandit place of abode. He was not at home but an accomplice was, and he was nabbed. The police further searched the premises and recovered $45,000, a Nokia Cell phone and a quantity of Phone cards.
