– says goodbye at reception
The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) hosted a reception Sunday night in honour of two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Aliann Pompey where several sport officials and athletes were able to formally wish the star athlete well in the remainder of her career. Pompey, who was in Guyana to attend the National Sports Commission (NSC) Award Ceremony that was to be held on Friday last, left Guyana last night. Several national and other athletes from various disciplines huddled with the international star Sunday night.
Among them was sprinter Rawle Greene, who said that he is not quite retired from sprinting, and Alisha Fortune, the most dominant local female sprinter in the last decade. Among the Track and Field stars were the national ruggers surrounded by other athletes.
The national rugby coach/player Theodore Henry was happy to see Pompey in Guyana after they last met at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi India where Pompey had won a silver medal that was Guyana’s only medal to follow her 2002 Commonwealth gold.
Henry and his rugby team came back from competing at the IRB World Series in Las Vegas two weeks ago. Among athletes were several coaches, Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, GOA Official, Garfield Wiltshire and Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) President, Colin Boyce.
