The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) for the fourth successive year has obtained sponsorship for its Inter Club Two-Innings Under-15 and First Division 50-over tournaments from Tenelec Inc. of Maryland, USA.
The package worth US$6,250 was handed over to the BCB on Monday by Mr. Bobby Deonarine and Mr. Tom Gruentzel of the Company during a simple presentation ceremony at the Albion Community Centre.
BCB Public Relations Officer Hilbert Foster at the ceremony stated that Tenelec Inc. is the biggest sponsor of Berbice cricket and has played a major role in the rapid development of the game in the Ancient County.
He informed the sponsors that their investment has resulted in Berbice capturing the Inter County Under-15 and 50-overs tournaments and has a number of players for the national teams including Shawn Pereira who captained the Guyana Under-15 team.
Foster also gave a brief review of the Board’s performance in 2010, a year he described as the best ever in their history.
Board President Keith Foster complimented Tenelec Inc. for their continued confidence in the BCB and reassured its representative that they will continue to uphold its solid reputation of organising both tournaments successfully and on schedule.
Human Resource Manager of Albion Estate Vemen Walter praised the BCB for its outstanding record of attracting and maintaining sponsorship despite the difficult economic situation.
Walter, a former Assistant Secretary of the Berbice Board expressed his satisfaction with the work of the Board and congratulated Tenelec Inc. on its continued investment in the area of youth development.
Mr. Bobby Deonarine, who is the uncle of West Indies Test player Narsingh Deonarine and Mr. Tom Gruentzel, both declared that they were pleased with the way the Berbice Cricket Board was conducting its business while stating that the relationship would continue in the future.
The 2011 tournaments will commence shortly following the official launch of the 2011 season later this month.
