Ceon Bristol eyes Gary StClair/Vivian Harris showdown
By Michael Benjamin
Local boxing sensation and New York State Champion, Lennox ‘2 Sharpe’ Allen has added another notch to his ‘gun belt’ when he disposed of American, Jesse Orta in the second round of their scheduled six rounds non title middleweight affair.
A report in Fightnews.com lauded the boxing prowess of the Guyanese pugilist and it seems as though Allen is now set for greater bouts in the United States. Speaking with Kaieteur Sport from his New York base yesterday afternoon, Allen said that he was happy with the victory but posits that it was virtually a walk in the park. “My training sessions were far more challenging than the actual bout,” he quipped.
Commenting on future plans, the Guyanese pugilist said that he was promised another bout sometime in March but is still to be furnished with details. The fight took place at Yonkers Armory in New York and was presented by O’Shea Boxing, also of NY. Allen’s record improves to 14-9-1. He returns to the gym later this week.
Meanwhile, a reliable source recently disclosed that local boxing buffs may have their desires met following efforts by Ceon Bristol of BrisO Promotions to match former World super/lightweight champion Vivian Harris against former International Boxing Federation Junior/lightweight champion, Gary ‘Superman’ StClair. The source revealed that negotiations for the bout are in the embryonic stages,
Kaieteur Sport attempted to verify this but was unable to speak with Mr. Bristol. Similar efforts to speak with Harris also failed but we were able to speak with StClair from his Australian base. He said that he has been approached and after some consideration decided to accept the bout once everything is in order.
The former world champion said that he is currently awaiting word from Mr. Bristol pertaining to the bout. “This will be a great fight; it’s been sometime that I had wanted to avenge an earlier loss to Vivian,” said StClair. The loss he was referring to occurred in Philadelphia in December 1999 when he surrendered a unanimous verdict to Harris. StClair currently sports a record of 49 bouts. He won 42 of them; 18 by the knockout route while suffering 10 losses and 2 draws. Harris has fought 29 times, lost 5 while drawing one of his bouts.
Kaieteur Sport would be following the developments as they unfold.
