The thick grass overgrowth allowed the fire to spread rapidly along the fence
Staff and students of Tutorial High School, located on Woolford Avenue, yesterday experienced a fire scare that raised sufficient concern for them to completely evacuate the compound.
This newspaper understands that the fire originated in the alleyway aback of the school and soon crept along the fence. The blaze eventually scorched a small section of the school’s farm. Immediately after observing the fire, officials from the school contacted the Alberttown Station. According to reports, the fire department promptly responded and got the blaze under control in similar fashion.
Officials disclosed that the fire spread rapidly because of thick grass overgrowth on the fence.
The staff and pupils swiftly assembled in the compound of the Gandhi Youth Organization, located opposite the school. According to the Head teacher, that is the school’s standard fire drill.
In August 2007, Tutorial High lost the top floor of its wooden two-storey structure as a result of fire. The school was soon rebuilt and the burnt furniture replaced.
