Buoyed by a year of hectic activity in 2010, the executive of the Guyana Chess Federation commences this year’s itinerary with much enthusiasm and optimism with the staging of the Trophy Stall Chess Tournament slated to get underway this on Saturday January 15 at the KEI-SHAR’S Sports Club, Hadfield St. Werk-en-Rust Georgetown. The tournament, a two tiered one, facilitates junior and senior players and would be played over eight rounds using the Swiss System.
Once again, proprietor of the Trophy Stall, Ramesh Sunich has acquiesced to a sizeable sponsorship deal after a similar gesture in last year’s tournament. Yesterday afternoon, Treasurer of the Chess Federation, Shiv Nandalall accepted the sponsorship package from Mr. Sunich in the presence of members of his staff and those from the media. This included several beautiful trophies for the respective winners in both categories. A trophy will also be presented to the best junior player on show.
The Trophy Stall manager expressed delight at once again being afforded the opportunity of sponsoring the tournament. He noted that the sport is capable of bolstering the mental capabilities of its participants even as it lifts Guyana to international acclaim. “It is for this very reason that we at Trophy Stall has agreed to continue with the sponsorship deal this year,” assured Mr. Sunich.
Mr. Nandalall collected on behalf of the Federation and profusely thanked Mr. Sunich for his generosity. “This gift will allow the executives of the Federation to continue working towards the development of the affiliates,” said the Chess Federation treasurer.
Meanwhile, registration starts at 14:00hrs and participants are reminded that the participation fee for seniors not within the folds of the Federation is $800, while their junior counterparts are required to pay and $600. Junior and senior members of the Guyana Chess Federation will pay a reduced fee. The action commences immediately after the conclusion of the registration process.
