Urges DCB executives to stop fighting among themselves
By Sean Devers
Long serving President of the Buxton ‘Carl Hooper’ Cricket Club Essie Peters says that his East Coast Demerara club is strongly supporting East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) President Bissoon Singh for the position of Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President when that entity holds its biannual elections on the last Sunday of this month.
The 43-year-old Singh, the proprietor of a City store is also the President of the Demerara Cricket Board and Vice-President of the GCB and is to come up against Ramsay Ali and Bish Panday for the most important position in Guyana cricket.
Peters, who recently held a one-day seminar for the Buxton club to discuss the role Buxton players and officials could play in the development of cricket on the East Coast of Demerara, told Kaieteur Sport that the executives and members of the Buxton cricket club will be voting for Singh to be retained as East Coast Board President and is also strongly behind Singh for the GCB Presidency.
“Singh has done a great job with cricket on the East Coast and is one of the people who would come into Buxton to help our cricket and ensure that all the clubs on the East Coast is given equal opportunities.
He wants cricket to be played all over Guyana and not just his area and should be allowed to run Guyana’s cricket,” Peters said.
Peters has been at the helm of the Buxton club since the early 1990s and has helped to develop Buxton into one of the top teams on the East Coast and keep the membership together especially during the periods of escalating crime when many avoided the Village because of the perception of it being a haven for crime.
“The Buxton Carl Hooper Cricket Club urges the members of the Demerara Cricket Board to stop fighting among them selves and to move on with the job of encouraging cricket to be properly assisted and organized throughout Guyana regardless of class, race, political affiliation or any other thing that has nothing to do with cricket. Bissoon Singh does not look at those things…he wants what is best for cricket and our club has benefited since he became the East Coast and Demerara Board President,” Peters said.
Peters said that it is not in the best interest of Demerara cricket that the secretary of the GCB and Vice- President of the DCB Anand Sanasie moved to the courts to stop the DCB elections which was scheduled for last Sunday and said that the entire membership of the Buxton Club is now calling on Sanasie to resign.
