Dr. Blackman birthday 7-a-side football finals set for January 2
Football fans of mainly the shorter and smaller version of the game will be in for a treat at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground, Bourda on Sunday January 2 when coordinator Lennox Arthur stages the finals of the Dr. Noel Blackman birthday 7-a-side football tournament.
A total of 36 teams started the competition and now there are only 12. These teams will play an elimination competition on January 2 to determine the champion. Arthur disclosed that the names of the 12 teams will be put in a bag and drawn randomly. That elimination process will continue until the final two is determined to clash in the championship game.
The 12 teams competing on Sunday, January 2 are; Mocha, Alexander Village, Sophia, North East LaPenitence, Broad Street, Pouderoyen, Grove, Lima Dam, Kuru Kururu, Timehri, Charlotte Street and Tiger Bay.
All the teams are asked to arrive at 5:00pm on January 2 for the drawing of the fixtures. At stake in the competition is $100,000 for the winner and $50,000 for the runner-up along with the Dr. Blackman trophies.
Dr. Noel Blackman was a former footballer and also a Minister of government during the PNC administration.
