Final two quarterfinal spots up for grabs at MSC tonight

Caribbean United face Bakewell Topp XX; Milerock tangle with Netrockers

The finals two spots to complete the 8-team quarterfinal line-up are at stake this evening when the competition in the 21st Kashif & Shanghai Football tournament moves to the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden.
The tournament started at this venue 21 years ago and Lindeners are expected to come out in their numbers to support their favorite teams.Barbados based Caribbean United with a few Guyanese players included will be making their first appearance and will have to get past five-time champs Bakewell Topp XX in order to ensure that this would not be their only game in the tournament.
The other game this evening brings together hometown teams Milerock and Netrockers. This will be the first game for Milerock, the leading side in Linden and they are expressing confidence that they will be taking the top spot this time around.
The Bakewell sponsored Topp XX defeated East Demerara’s Ann’s Grove United 2-1 in their opening game and will welcome to their line-up the Suriname based pair of Richard Reynolds and Javin Crawford.
Collie Hercules, Kayode McKinnon, Carey Harris, Carlos Brown, Ruel Williams, Michael Crandon, Kennard Simon, Travis Waterton, Ron Fiedtkou, among others will combine efforts to take the five-time champs into the quarter finals. Caribbean United comes from Chavez Hescott, Adrian Reid, Ingram Campbell, Fitzgerald Carter, Travis McPherson, Carl Cole, Prince Johnson, Elsie Miggins, Megwell Nurse, Darriot Frank, Rawle Gittens, Charles Harvey, Orville Mitchell, Bryan Stephens, Jimmy Gravesande, Terrence Lewis, Clayton Mc Cloud, Rene Gibbons and Omali Nassy.
Preparations for Milerock have gone well and the team is rearing to get into action against Netrockers. According to a team representative, they are aiming to make a impact in this year’s tournament.
The players tasked with the responsibility of delivering for Milerock are former National Under-17 goalkeeper Clifton Halley. Among the defenders are former Nationals Kieron Cameron, Derol Dainty and Ryan Crandon. Controlling midfield will be Marlon Maximus, Clive Nobrega, Oswald Benjamin and Kevin Tudor. Leading the forward line will be the Trinidad and Tobago based professional pair of Randolph ‘Blackhead’ Jerome and Alestor Johnson.
Netrockers, already in competition mode having defeated Bakewell Buxton Stars 2-0 will look to Matthew Pollard and Keon Bristol to lead their challenge, the two scoring in their triumph against Buxton.
Some of the other players are Compton Burnette, Ray Fraser, Akeem Green, Colrick Beckles, Dellon Younge, Kennard Archibald, Orande Wills, Roderick Richard, Oswin Hope, Tony Adams, Seon Adams, Neashwan Hazel, Leonard Johnson, Clarence Huggins, Odell Allicock, Orwin Douglas, Lennox Allicock and Marlon Simon.
The winner of this encounter will earn the right to play Alpha United on Boxing night at the same venue in quarter final play while the victor of the Caribbean United/Bakewell Topp XX showdown will match skills with the Guyana Defense Force also on Boxing night in Linden.
Game time today is 18:00hrs and an entertaining evening of football is anticipated.
