The Preacher who was arrested and detained on Saturday night for beating his wife yesterday passed through Magistrate’s Court at Wales, West Bank Demerara.
Pastor Ramanah Yankana was reported to the police and subsequently arrested for beating his wife; although the matter was initially treated as a domestic violence issue, Yankana while in custody, gave a statement implicating his wife as an assailant. Therefore both husband and wife were charged with assault.
The couple told conflicting stories in court over the reasons for their assault and each pleaded not guilty. They were both released on bail to the tune of $40,000 and were ordered to reappear in court on January 21, 2011.
Meanwhile, sources close to the family have related that the couple’s only daughter, a young girl of ten, is now refusing to return home with her parents.
Reports indicate that the young girl is apparently traumatised at the steady abuse of her mother at her father’s hands and she is not only refusing to return home but she also wants her mother to leave as well.
The source indicated that Social Services has been called in to settle the matter.
