Lots of cash to be won as GASP caps off year with Scrabble Scramble tourney
Moen Gafoor has had a great year on the board, winning most of the tournaments organized by the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) during that Association’s calendar of activities during the year.
Caribbean Scrabble Champion, Fred Collins has not been as active as he would have preferred, due to work related matters. National Champion, Abigail McDonald took a self imposed exile from the sport, opening the options of the lowly rated players, some of whom did manage to capitalize on her absence.
The fun is now over as all of these principals would convene on Sunday December 19 to match wits and determine once and for all which is the best local scrabble player when the GASP caps off the year’s activities with Scrabble Scramble, a tournament that nets the occupants of the three podium spots lucrative monetary rewards. Those finishing 4th and 5th would also receive cash prizes.
Apart from the players mentioned above, others the likes of Orlando Michael, Colin Chichester, Ruby Cummings and Grace Hercules will be vying for the dollars at stake. Also, one cannot eliminate Yvonne Murray from among the top players as she could be a mean player on her day.
The venue for the tournament is the Malteenoes Sports Club and the registration period lasts from 09:30 to 09:55hrs. The first tile would be pushed at 10:00hrs sharp.
Whatever the accumulated entrance fee, GASP will match it and persons finishing 1-5 will each receive cash prizes. The organizers wish to remind participants that late comers would be penalized as their clocks would be started in their absence.
