Dear Sir,
The recent discovery of the “No child left behind” educational policy embraced by our Ministry of Education and what it really means, forces me to emphatically endorse the bold and courageous decision by Wismar headmaster, Cleveland Thomas.
How can any educator, and better yet, any Minister of Education and Ministry of Education, agree to automatically promote students who do not pass their exams? Why would one want to demotivate a student by eradicating the incentive to learn, to compete, to achieve, to build self-esteem?
This is a stumbling block that will produce a breed of “laid back” students who will not see the need to study and build an academic foundation. This will lead to school dropouts and student apathy and a search for “other exciting” avenues of adventure, perhaps criminal in nature.
For, indeed , as most of us adults must know, who have benefited from a sound educational foundation in this country, formal education is a necessary adventure very suited to the eager childhood quest for knowledge.
As a Servant of God, I warn our civil leaders of the level of divine penalty the Scriptures enunciate against anyone who offends a child, that is, causes that child to stumble or be led astray, or hinders him in right conduct or thought: “… it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depths of the sea” (Matthew 18:6, Holy Bible).
Why should Government implement policies that rob our children?
In 1995, they callously legalised the murder of the unborn child, seduced by the lure of a funding agency, despite the strong warnings of the Church and other God-fearing Guyanese. Today, 15 years later, the nation is still haemorrhaging due to the curse invoked because of that damnable law, through murder, suicide, extra-judicial killings, phantom squads, road accidents and more abortion!
Thus, some of our children have been socialised in a culture of death where human life is very cheap. Most recently, again , a known convicted child molester Doctor in a different jurisdiction, has been employed by the Ministry of Health and let loose in our Public Hospital.
Minister Ramsammy, Medical Council, are you aware that you are the medical guardians of this nation? Mr. President, Mr. Minister of Education, Parliamentarians all, Opposition Parties, it would be prudent for you to get back to the drawing table and analyse this glib phrase “no child left behind”.
Desist from putting our children in harm’s way in our Medical system by employing Pedophiles. Parents, these children are your primary responsibility. Stand up for your children in these educational and health matters. You are the taxpayers, you are the voters, you must hold our Government officials accountable. Almighty God does!
