– ‘junkie’ among two detained
Police have detained two men suspected of digging up the corpse of a 14-year-old girl from a Corriverton, Corentyne cemetery and sexually violating her remains.
Shocked residents who were strolling through the area around 06:30 hrs yesterday discovered the nude corpse outside its tomb.
Police sources said that there were abrasions on the body’s thighs and hands and it appeared to have been sexually violated.
The shalwar and artificial jewellery with which she was buried were strewn on the ground.
Police and relatives were summoned and the remains were taken to a mortuary, where a pathologist examined the remains for signs of sexual assault.
The teen was then given a second burial.
Kaieteur News understands that two men from the community where the girl resides were subsequently taken into custody. One of the suspects had a cut on his hand. The other suspect is about 40 and reportedly has previous arrests for sexual offences.
Kaieteur News understands that the teen was admitted to hospital on October 26 and died on Thursday, last. She was buried on Monday.
It was just last June that Roopram Bacchus, a 20-year-old garbage collector from Adelphi Village, East Canje , Berbice, was convicted for exhuming and sexually violating the corpse of a 75-year-old woman. The charge was necrophilia.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $40,000 with an alternative of six months in jail.
