Fyrish move to joint leaders with #51 in Berbice action
Road defeat Back Street to win the final on penalty shootout after an intense battle during regulation and extra time in the Den Amstel segment of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Inter-Block football tournament last weekend.
The Road team were the most balanced and better team on paper but their opponents were not intimidated and showed them that the game of football isn’t played on paper.
The Back Street team spearheaded by their captain Munroe made the Road team work for their victory with a solid performance from their Goalkeeper who was also the tournament’s best Goalie.
Road on the other hand, who had the core of players from the Den Amstel football team had a few spirited runs also but their Back Street counterparts defence and some brilliant goalkeeping were enough to force the game into a penalty shoot out.
In the end the road being the most experienced team prevailed 8-7 on penalty kicks.
Meanwhile, up in Berbice, Fyrish Village scored a 2-0 victory over Liverpool in their encounter played last Sunday. Travis Williams and Marvin Bansfield were on target for the winners.
The win takes Fyrish to 20 points, same as #51 Village at the top of the table after four games.
