– Feels Guyana will be competitive
Local Superbike champion Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday said that even though overtaking Canadian Kevin Graham could prove to be a difficult task, he believes he will be very competitive come race day.
Vieira, who lies second behind Graham in the Caribbean Series still, has a mathematical chance of overhauling his rival, but that will depend on how well he performs and a big shift in fortune for the experienced Canadian speedster.
“I will have to depend on a stroke of ill luck to befall Kevin for me to win the championship, but who knows those things could happen in racing,” Vieira said.
Graham has been unbeaten in the two legs in Jamaica and Barbados respectively, but Vieira could take solace in the fact that the last time the two competed against each other at the South Dakota Circuit, it was the Guyanese, who took top honours and he will be banking on that to boost his confidence to upstage his more illustrious counterpart.
The Superbike category promises to be a scorching affair and according to reports, it will be fully subscribed with most of the top competitors slated to compete.
Vieira disclosed that Graham has looked to be in fine mettle and seems to be once again relishing the opportunity to race against the best in the region.
He, however, revealed that Guyana will field a formidable group of riders including his partner Maurice Menezes, who is expected to ride a recently acquired 2009 Kawasaki 2X6R bike along with the likes of Carlos Rodrigues, Joel Niblette and others.
He concluded that the category will produce high quality riding and fans will be treated to high class rivalry. “Our riders are getting better every time and almost all of them are constantly upgrading their machines so I think that the fans will be the winners,” Vieira felt.
Fans are being urged to come out on November 7 for a day that promises to be action packed.
