– riddled with bullets by men in white car
A 31-year-old man was gunned down in Broad Street around 20:00 hrs last night, just a few weeks after one of his close friends (some say brother) was executed in a similar manner in Cummings Lodge.
Mark Caesar, called ‘Lil Mark’, of Lot 81 St. Stephen’s Street and Ogle, East Coast Demerara, was riddled with bullets by three men in a white car while he was sitting on a fire hydrant in the vicinity of Broad and Adelaide Streets, Charlestown.
Police have received reports that Caesar was eating fried chicken when three men drove up, exited a white car and shot him in the head and other parts of the body.
He was killed almost instantly.
Police recovered two .45 shells at the scene.
Kaieteur News confirmed that Caesar was a close associate of Steve Jupiter, who was one of five people shot dead while travelling in a car in Cummings Lodge.
There were suggestions last night that the two killings are linked.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene had said that Jupiter was suspected to have been a paid hit-man, an enforcer and also a transporter of drugs.
Donna Caesar, the slain man’s mother, told Kaieteur News that her son had just bought some fried chicken which he had shared with her.
He then left her St. Stephen’s Street home. The man then headed to Broad and Adelaide Streets, where he sat on a fire hydrant eating.
Shortly after, some residents said that a white car with tinted windows sped past Caesar’s St. Stephen’s Street home. The occupants of the heavily tinted vehicle then turned into Broad Street and stopped next to Caesar.
Three men then exited and pumped several bullets into their victim. There are reports that the killers continued to shoot even as Caesar lay mortally wounded on the parapet.
They then re-entered the car and raced away from the scene.
A close associate of the Caesar family said that she recalled hearing several gunshots.
She said that when she arrived at the scene she saw Caesar lying motionless on the parapet. She observed at least one bullet wound to the head.
According to reports, relatives and friends bundled the slain man into his car and took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead.
As word of the shooting spread, several of the victim’s relatives and associates rushed to the GPHC to get a glimpse of his body. Despite the presence of police and security personnel, a few of them forced their way into the Accident and Emergency Unit.
The relatives said that they could not supply a motive for his execution.
Caesar was also wounded last December during an altercation with an off-duty policeman outside a Kitty bar.
One of Caesar’s friends, 28-year-old Hewley Nicholas Barker, of Norton Street, Lodge, was slain in that same altercation.
In the Cummings Lodge execution Fiona Singh, 23; their son Neil Jupiter, three; Christopher Gordon, and Sherwin Jerome called “Dice head” were shot and killed when a team of gunmen opened fire on their car that was parked not far from the Turkeyen Campus of the University of Guyana.
