As part of its 41st anniversary, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has embarked on a number of projects aimed at giving back to the various communities that have helped keep the entity afloat.
The NIS Melanie Damishana Local Office is one such branch that has already made good on the programme. 100-year old Clifton David of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara was the beneficiary of the anniversary gesture.
“We have selected our oldest pensioner, Mr Clifton David, to honour him,” an official of the Melanie Damishana office told Kaieteur News.
David was presented with a bumper hamper during a simple ceremony at his home on Thursday.
The centenarian marveled those present with his wit and unending chatter.
This newspaper understands that NIS branches throughout the country have identified other individuals and groups who will benefit from the initiative.
