He has wowed a captive audience around the world with unforgettable renditions like ‘Oh Girl,’ ‘Have you seen her,’ and ‘Homely Girl,’ now Anthony Watson, the lead singer of the Chi-Lites has arrived in Guyana and has promised a similar experience for his audience as he prepares for two solid hours of musical fantasy at the National Cultural Centre tonight in a show promoted by John Hunte, a Guyanese musical promoter operating under the label ‘Solar Entertainment.’
The dapper songbird stopped over at Kaieteur News yesterday afternoon and gave an inkling of the treat in store for those attending the show. His unassuming personality effectively concealed the sweet sound that emitted from his lips, leaving those lucky enough to have heard him in awe and thirsting for more.
This is the impact this native of the United States of America intends to have on his audience tonight.
Watson said that he was actually born with a microphone in his hands. He inherited his talent from his dad, Elbert Watson, a competent background singer to the late singing icon, Sam Cooke. His dad is now retired but Watson has since grabbed the proverbial baton (or should that be microphone) and is proudly carrying the instrument with distinction.
Mr. Hunte is urging all Guyanese with a penchant for good clean entertainment to come to the Cultural Centre tonight and witness the legendary singer as he unveils his magic. “This would be a great show for the senior folks who wish to relive the ecstasy of yesteryear,” promised Mr. Hunte even as Mr. Watson nodded in affirmation.
Apart from that, musical lovers will be charmed by two other R&B songbirds from the USA, Omatayo and Lyndsay. “Patrons are assured of several solid hours of good clean fun,” Mr. Hunte further promised.”
He intimated that he has been in the promotional business for over five years and has been engaged in promotional activities in several countries around the world including Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Costa Rica, Belize and Grenada.
“Those were successful shows but I just felt that I had to give Guyanese something special so here I am,” said Hunte in response to a question of his decision to promote the show locally.
Anthony Watson has been in the business for a long time during which he has produced over 50 albums. Two of his pieces, ‘Oh Girl’ and ‘Have you seen her’ have been inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame.
Tonight he has promised to induct himself into the hearts of all local music lovers.
Admission prices range from $2000 and $1500 for auditorium front and rear respectively while those desirous of enjoying an aerial view of the proceedings will have to fork out $1000 for the Balcony seating. The magic will be wielded from 20:00hrs. Dress code is in effect.
