Following the successful staging of the Junior Scrabble tournament for players between the ages of 11-18 on Saturday August 21, the executive members of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Association (GASP) had promised to present the various winners with their respective prizes at a later date.
True to their word, last Saturday morning, GASP executives summoned the players to two locations and ensured that they received the promised incentives.
The players first convened at the Maltenoes Sports Club Thomaslands, where they each received an engraved jersey, compliments of Abdool and Abdool Insurance Brokers before traveling to Giftland Office Max, Water and Holmes Streets Georgetown where the top five finishers each received gift vouchers valued three thousand dollars each to facilitate shopping at the organization’s Water Street store.
Handing over the gift on behalf of Giftland, Accounts Supervisor, Teresa Narine congratulated the various winners while reminding them of her organization’s commitment to their development.
Responding on behalf of the GASP, President Moen Gafoor expressed pleasure at the benevolence of the sponsors. He further urged the young players to continue practicing so as to perfect the art of the sport. Two other GASP members, Caribbean champion, Fred Collins and top seed, Colin Chichester were also at the function.
The players on hand to collect prizes included Mark Gonsalves, Gennelle Cadagon and Tevon Skeete.
