Wins for Leguan, E.B. E’bo, Bartica, South and North E’bo
Leguan, East Bank Essequibo, Bartica, South and North Essequibo registered victories as the Essequibo Cricket Board Busta 50 overs festival continued recently with matches in zone A and B.
In zone A, at Anna Regina South defeated Central Essequibo by one run. South took first turn at the crease and scored 148 all out in 43.3 overs after the game was reduced to 46 overs due to a late start.
Dillon Heyliger and Floyd Herry led with 29 each and Rovin Dusraj assisted with 25 as medium pacer Balchan Shivamber grabbed 5-23 and Kulraj Persaud 3.6. Central in reply fell one run short ending on 147 all out in 46 overs. Former national U-19 player Latchman Rohit top scored with 50 (4×4, 2×6) while Navindra Madholall made 21 and Shivamber 20. Royan Federicks and Anthony Adams picked up two wickets each for South.
At Cavaliers in Pomeroon, North Essequibo overcame the host by 12 runs. North batted first and were bowled out for 152 in 33 overs in a match which was reduced to 40 overs. Fizal Karim hit five fours in a top score of 34 and Rajiv Manichand contributed 19. James Cornelius and Ramesh Narine picked three wickets each for Pomeroon who managed 140 all out in 24 overs. Anthony Persaud was their leading run getter with 31 (4×4, 1×6) and Chris Williams scored 23.
Mark Tyrell (3-30), Vishwanauth Lall (3-21) and Keron Sewnarine (2-21) bowled well for the winners.
In zone B, Leguan got the better of Wakenaam at Wakenaam Community Center ground by 28 runs. IN a match which was ruduced to 40 overs due to rain. Leguan who batted first were skittled out for 128 in 33.5 overs. Trevor Whyte made 40 (2×4, 3×6) and Tatteshwar Chetram supported with 27 as national U-19 player Ricardo Adams, who took a hat-trick, bagged 3-15 while Nazeer Mohamed and Imran Khan took wickets each.
Wakenaam who needed to win by a handsome margin to qualify for the final mustered 100 in 10.3 overs as their batsmen threw their bat at almost everything in an effort to top zone B. Chandreka Ragnauth made 19 while Imran Khan and Jerry Adams scored 18 and 12 respectively. Whyte and Imtiaz Khan snared three wickets apiece and Huckumchand Savitir had 2-17 for Leguan.
at the same venue, Bartica defeated Wakenaam by 12 runs. Bartica took first strike and rattled up 148 before they were bowled out in 35 overs after the game was reduced to 45 overs. Robin Narine top scored with 36 (2×6, 5×4) and Shastri Mangal helped with 33 (2×6, 2×4). Offspinner Nazeer Mohamed bagged 4-25, Imran Khan 3-20 and Ricardo Adams 2-20. Wakenaam in response made 136 all out in 29.2 overs. Skipper Navishaul Pooran slammed 41 (3×4, 3×6), Ricardo Adams 25 and Seon Venture 17. Experienced left arm spinner Robert Moore grabbed 3-47 and Teon Vanderhyden 2-26 for Bartica.
On Friday at Vergenoegen on the East Bank of Essequibo, the host made light work of Leguan beating them by 119 runs.
Batting first the home piled up 213-5 after the match was reduced to 23 overs. Kenworth Smith stroked 55 (2×4, 6×6), Jason Heyliger hit 50 (1×4, 5×6) and Kevon Boodie made 38. Tulsieram Premnauth took 2-23 for the visitors who were routed for 97 in 19.2 overs. Trevon Benn, Alwick Legall, Heyliger and Jemol Marks claimed two wickets each for East Bank.
Meanwhile East Bank Essequibo and Bartica topped zone B with two wins each but the former have qualified for the final after defeating the latter in the preliminary round. (Zaheer Mohamed)
