Rajesh prevails as Guyana Draughts Association organizes successful tournament

Mr. Rajesh made the villagers of Metem-meer-zorg proud when he carted off the honours when the executive of the Guyana Draughts Association (GDA) in collaboration with players out of Region Three organized a draughts competition at the Landview Restaurant and Bar, Metem-meer-zorg WCD over the past weekend.
Rajesh amassed 39 points, 4 more than L. Wilson of Vreed-en-Hoop, who eventually copped the second place. Conrade Anderson represented Vergenoegen amassed 34 points to close off the podium spots.
Haroon Khan of Pouderoyen and Davenand Persaud of Tushen ended the tournament on 33 points apiece but the latter player eventually prevailed 2-0 after the two were locked in a tie-breaker showdown. The three top place finishers were each presented with trophies donated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports while Mr. Persaud received a special gift from the executives of the GDA.
Meanwhile, delivering brief remarks at the start of the competition, President of the GDA, Mr. Jairam urged the participants to play fairly even as they aspire to win.
He also informed them that the GDA is currently mulling over the selection of a team for international duties and their respective performances will weigh heavily on their possible selection.
Also present at the function was Director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar. He informed the participants that Mr. Jairam would shortly name the top six local players and that they should be furnished with copies of the international rules.
The director of Sports told the players that they would be required to adjust to the new rules when they are made available.
