Courts Pacesetters have found itself in a peculiar position in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Division III League after winning four of their seven games with their final game scheduled for tonight against the Colours Panthers.
Pacesetters, a team that was ranked number one in Georgetown last year, have slipped to third in the GABA League. However, with a win tonight, Pacesetters could have some consolation ahead of the Pepsi Street Series that features the four best teams.
Scorpions are the Division III leaders with seven wins and one game to play while Ravens are in second with seven wins and one loss having completed all their games. There is no way therefore that Pacesetters could ascend in the rankings of the League.
Tonight’s game is more or less a solace game for the team. Melanie Patriots rounded off the final four teams in the Division III League and will face Scorpions in the last game of the division this Saturday night on the outdoor Burnham Basketball Court.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, National Coach, Robert Cadogan, who is also the Coach of Courts Pacesetters Basketball Club stated that he does not want to make excuses for his team’s slip in the rankings, but believes his unit will rebound.
“The competition has gone to a next level in the City. It is good for the game that another team is actually leading other than Ravens, or Pacesetters. It just means that other teams have stepped up their game and we have to do the same,” Cadogan indicated.
He said that he was not training the side early in the season when the first half of the League was held. The National Coach believes that Pacesetters will prevail in the Street Series, which will be commencing next weekend with preliminaries at the same venue.
