Dear Editor,
What would be the benefit to Richard Van West Charles continued campaign moving around the various PNCR strongholds undermining and misrepresenting the party’s positions in the media?
Why is it that he is undermining the decision of Winston Murray to accept the elections results because “…it is clear that Mr. Corbin would have won” (SN 09/ 07/ 2010). It appears that these two leaders have differences and are driven by different stimuli and desires.
Is Van West Charles suggesting from his continued campaign of election irregularities etc. that Murray was naïve but yet he is prepared to advance Murray as the Presidential candidate of the PNCR?
The motives of Dr Van West Charles now appear dubious and organised to exploit Murray as a victim under the Corbin led PNCR.
This campaign of Dr. Van West Charles has a subversive overtone and will only serve to disrupt the party that has the best chances of leading an alternative government.
Van West Charles is no new politician and no stranger to Guyanese politics. He knows only too well that destabilizing the PNCR works in the interest of the PPP and the AFC. So what motivates the son-in-law of Burnham to undermine the image of a free and transparent election process that has moved the party miles ahead of any of its local counterparts? What motivates him to move beyond the confines of the party and its internal decision making mechanism when there is evidence that the current leadership of the party has bent over backwards to accommodate differences, new ideas and all who believe they could work and function within the PNCR’s culture?
As Richard Van West Charles traverses the country waging a divisive campaign that separates the PNCR’s troops, the PPP is trampling on Guyanese, knowing full well that a divided PNCR and a divided opposition guarantees their return to office in 2011 and distraction from their mismanagement of the state. Shrewd as the PPP are they must be exploiting areas for financial investment in opposition disunity.
Will Van West Charles cry foul and use other epithets to besmirch the image of the PNCR and its leader if/when the party fails to identify Murray as its Presidential candidate?
Is this about Winston Murray, the suffering Guyanese masses or is this a power crazed personality of someone bent on having things his way because he believes he has an entitlement to rule and does not need to abide by the rules or respect the decisions made within the party by its members? Is Murray just a means towards an end for Dr. Van West Charles?
D. Benn
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
