Representatives of the four Organisations pose with some of the Senior Berbice players after receiving the donations worth $250,000.

The Special Events Committee (SEC) of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday last launched its Senior National Players’ Charity Programme at the Albion Sports Complex by assisting four organisations with $250,000 worth of electrical equipment and clothing.
The Programme is a joint effort of the Special Events Committee and the 8 Berbice based national players in South Africa playing in the Champions League.
The Board and players donated a 21″ Television set to the Children Ward of the New Amsterdam Hospital, a 21″ Television set and DVD Player to the Special Needs School for handicap students, one microwave and coffee maker to the Mental Hospital and $100,000 worth of children’s clothing to Camal Children’s Home of Chesney Front, Albion.
Chairman of the Committee Hilbert Foster informed that the BCB over the last three years has transformed itself from being just a Sports Body into a Social Organisation which is making a positive difference in the lives of others.
The main aims of the programme are to get senior Berbice cricketers involved in charity work; to get them to understand the importance of giving back to society and to promote the image that Berbice players are committed to community development.
Foster told the large gathering at the launching that the general public is of the view that cricketers are only interested in money and his Board is determined to prove that this is not the case. He disclosed that the charity programme would be permanent. Berbice cricketers who play for the senior national team would finance the programme. He called on the four organisations to appreciate what the players and the Board did and to care the equipment.
Treasurer of the Board, Anil Beharry heaped praises on the cricketers who readily agreed to the BCB’s proposal and for the passion to be positive role models to the younger generation of players.
Beharry spoke at length on the importance of giving back to those less fortunate and noted that the BCB was committed to making a positive difference.
The players contributing to the Charity Programme were Assad Fudadin, Esuan Crandon, Royston Crandon, Richard Ramdeen, Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Foo, Narsingh Deonarine and Sewnarine Chattergoon.
The players expressed their personal delight at being able to assist and make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. They congratulated the BCB for the outstanding work it was doing on and off the field of play.
The players also pledged their full support to the Charity Programme in the future and to represent the Ancient County with pride and passion.
Representatives of the four organisations expressed gratitude to the Board and 8 players for the donation and encouraged them to continue the good work they have been doing over the years.
